Most people who want to get into cybersecurity are told to start with a certification and figure out the rest later. This course does it the other way around. You spend thirteen weeks doing the job for one small business, and the certification material comes along for the ride.
You can start from zero
You do not need a technical background or any time in a terminal. The first three weeks explain how things actually work, with every term defined the first time it appears. Hands-on work begins in Week 4, in a guided lab with instructors in the room.
Meet your client
On day one you are hired by Harbor Dental, a fictional eighteen-person clinic with a server in a closet and a shared admin password. Over thirteen weeks you make it safe: you harden its systems, read its network traffic, fix who has access to what, catch the phishing email aimed at the office manager, run the vulnerability assessment its insurer wants, build its security monitoring, lead its ransomware response, and move its booking system to the cloud. In the final week you present the whole security program to a panel. Each week builds on the last, so the presentation is made of things you already built.
How it works
ThOne live class a week, two hours, in plain language. After each class, an assignment of an hour or two: a written exercise about the clinic, a ten-question check, a short reading, and an optional fifteen-minute cloud lab.
Weeks 4, 8, and 12 are labs. The machines are already built for you in SailingCyber labs and every part is guided, and the lab is how you pass into the next stage. T
Week 13 is the capstone: the security program, the panel, and your career launch.
The three stages
Beginner: learn to see. How security, computers, networks, and encryption work.
Analyst: learn to find. Weaknesses in identity, people, systems, and applications, written up so someone can fix them.
Practitioner: learn to run it. Monitoring, incident response, cloud security, and governance.
Security+ objectives covered in it
Every CompTIA Security+ objective is covered in a class, a lab, or a short weekly reading. An optional fourteenth week adds a full practice exam and a study plan for anyone who wants to sit it.
What you walk away with
A security lab you set up yourself. Three lab reports and a complete security program on your own portfolio site. The Practitioner Certificate when you finish.
One honest note
Nobody can promise you a job. What we can promise is work a hiring manager can see, the vocabulary to hold a technical conversation, and a clear plan for what to do next. Everything you build is yours to show.
Start Smart. Grow Bold. Thrive Fast.
